About us

Shifter X Productions in conjunction with Boogie Box was founded and run by Scottish singer/songwriter Ray Martin.

studio-2Ray has enjoyed a career in music that spans over two decades; beginning with his first band, Blue Dawn.

Blue Dawn were chosen to represent the home town of East Kilbride, near Glasgow, at the music festival in Ballerup, Denmark.

Tipped to go far in pop music, the band quickly found themselves gigging regularly, filling local venues and theatre.

A debut demo was produced that was picked up by Radio Clyde; followed by a successful heats appearance sponsored by hair product company Wella.

The young band began making their own waves when the management company behind superstars Wet Wet Wet, The Precious Organization, invited the East Kilbride starlets for talks. Ray Martin was taken under their wing as singer/songwriter with the band built around Ray.

The band itself included top musicians with Eddie Campbell on keyboards. He later joined Scottish band Texas.

Ray later left Precious and teamed up with Andy Gillespie on keyboards – now with Simple Minds.

School tours followed backed with a first-release of a 12-inch single, ‘The Real Thing’ by John Mancini of Colours. The track became a GBX Floorburner on Clyde 1.

Ray and Andy worked tirelessly in their studio – which was in the same building to Slam record label and Soma Records (Daft Punk).

Ray thereafter formed Shifter X with bassist Andy Brooks. The band would release a couple of singles and albums independently. The band would later feature in magazine publication, enjoyed radio exposure and performed alongside Mercury Music Prize Winner Speech Debelle in Cambridge.

Today, Ray Martin runs Shifter X Productions – Boogiebox.

ShifterX/Boogiebox has a catalogue of music placed in music licensing agencies in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and Hollywood.

Producer Ray is available now to work on your tracks.
